Since then I took 9 wart-hog and 12 jackal with this scope rifle combination. Both at night and during the day. Now due to the fact that I use different bullet weights for different animals( 180grn for wart-hogs and 110grn for jackal) and add to that the fact that I sometimes remove my silencer from the barrel, I have a huge difference in the point of impact(poi), this is due to the bullet weight differences and it gets amplified when one removes the silencer. The difference is 5 inches lower POI from the 180grn -no silencer to the 110grn- with silencer. I decide to experiment with the scope so I multiplied 5 x 8 clicks, gave the up/down turret exactly 40clicks up and the very first shot the POI was on the very same spot with the 180grn as with the 110grn. I tested this a couple of times and without exception this was possible every time, and it is so easy with the turret setup on the viper. I simply set it to zero for the 180grn and as soon as night falls(vermin time) I simply dial in to the 40clicks mark and change ammo.
The implications of this, is that I converted my 308 from a Bushveld type setup(180grn at short distances, no further than 150m for larger game) to a varminter rifle where my own abilities are my only limitation. Usually this would have implied that I had to use two different rifles. This goes further two rifles two licences two sets of ammo twice the costs etc.
I have since practised to use the reticule to compensate for different bullet trajectories.
Anyway I thought you should know that I am very impressed with your product. I bought a 270win for my wife and as soon as the licence comes through I will be ordering another Viper. Feel free to use/edit this e-mail as a testimonial. I have photos of most of the animals I took since November 2011(as well as a couple of pics of the rifle with the scope). The kills can be confirmed by the local veterinarian, as I work closely with him to try and find a workable solution to the jackal an ever growing wart-hog problem. We try to keep a kind of logbook of all the problem animas we shoot: date ;male female; weight; time of day etc.
Sammie says - there's a lot of detail in James' post, but it shows just how verstaile and rugged the Viper is!
